  WHAT IS A BOUTIQUE GROUP

boutique groups can be loads of fun for those of you wondering what they are this page is created for you so that you may better understand the boutique community and how it works.

FEATURED BOUTIQUE GROUP

WHAT IS A BOUTIQUE GROUP?

There are many design groups that can be found in the custom clothing industry on EBay.The biggest piece of advice is to choose the group that you join carefully.  If you join a group and the fit isn't right; don't give up....try again.  The experience is incredible!  Being involved with a group is a very good opportunity to share ideas with "like minded" artisans, be inspired by group launches and other designers creations, and find friendships that are amazing.  There are so many benefits to being involved in a group, but probably one of the biggest is that you have your very own sounding board of people who are in the same industry that you are.  It helps to get you through the tough times and it's so wonderful to share the joyful times too.  Having a "safe" place to share design issues or get advice about customer service is especially great.  Most design groups accept new members from time to time.  Many advertise when they are on the hunt for some new talent.  If you like a group and seem inspired by their members it's a great idea to let them know that you would be interested in being contacted if a spot becomes available.

There are many Specialty Groups and Boutique Groups on Ebay.
For a designer,  this can get a bit confussing, as you wonder what are the differences among the specialty, boutique, and sellers' groups?

Specialty Groups are ladies that do the same thing; it might be bows, jewelry or applique, but all members create the same items. These groups are important, as they help a designer grow.

Boutique Groups are ladies of different areas that get together and create a wonderful environment.  They work together and have launches. This is different for each group;  thus making each group unique. Some are business oriented , some are just for fun, and yes, some fall right in the middle . So, YES, there is a perfect fit for everyone.

Sellers Groups of the Mini Mall are where we all get together and work as one. These groups are  promoting, and marketing.  Yes, there are many different groups within the mini mall, but we all work together, in a professional manner, which makes this sellers' group a unique experience. In sellers' groups, sellers, as well as buyers, are welcome to join.

We hope the above groups' info will help to clarify the different types of groups. As a simple reminder, whichever group you may look at, remember to ask questions and be honest:
1- How many groups can a person be in, and what kind?  This is very important.
2- Do you have group launches; if so, how often?
3- How long have you been around?
4- What type of rules does your group have?

Then. ask yourself what are you expecting from the group. Remember,  a group will not make you rich; only you, as a designer, can do that with hours of hard work.  However, a group can boost you in getting there.  Remember that if you dont find the right group, keep searching; there is a perfect fit for everyone!

thanks to the ladies of Peas n Pod Boutique for sharing the above information on groups

There are several reasons that a designer might consider joining a group, one of which would be to collaborate with other designers with similar interests and personalities. I believe it is truly important for a designer to find THE right group for them-there are many groups out there as we all know, and it depends on what they are looking for.

Prior to joining a group, you may want to ask yourself the following questions
a.) what do I expect to receive from being in this group?
b.) what are the group's goals and how do they match my goals both personally and professionally as a designer?
c.) how long has this group been together and what has the group history been?
d.) Is there a frequent change in designers or leadership within the group?
e.) how often does this group do launches and can I realistically meet the deadlines for the launches so I don't let my groupmates down?
f.) How well is the group known and WHAT is it known for? if you are a girls clothing designer and the group's focus is on bows--it wouldn't obviously be a good fit.
g.) What do I hope to bring to the table as far as group dynamics go? What are my talents and skills that I might be able to share to help the group function smoothly?
h.) Is it a closed or open group? This means can I belong to other groups if I join this group. There are benefits and drawbacks to both and again, it all depends on your commitment level, time constraints and business goals.

These are some questions that I, as a leader would expect prospective members to be asking me if they are serious about finding a group. Some groups have a focus of friendship, some groups are serious about trend-setting and cutting edge style, other like theme launches while still more concentrate on hosting guest launches and networking with other designers. A good way to decide what type of group you are looking for (if you are indeed groupless) is to take the opportunity to read the boards and check out what types of launches the groups do and when they ask for guest designers, sign up. A guest launch is a wonderful way to get to see how the group operates and what the group member's personalities are like. You may find a great deal of competition, you may find a lack of enthusiasm, you may find a new home--but you won't know if you don't test drive a group.
